OUR HISTORY...
In early 1948, a group of men and women felt the leading of the Holy Spirit and the need for a Baptist church in the Stone Station community. A revival meeting was
planned and held in a peach shed owned by Mr. Boyce Morgan. That peach shed still stands just a few hundred feet from the Church’s present location. As a result
of that revival meeting, the church was constituted on July 4, 1948. The church continued to meet in the peach shed, then at Stone Station Elementary School. In the
winter of 1948, the church began meeting in the home of charter members Mr. and Mrs. J.E. O’Connor. In April of 1949, the church purchased a two acre lot, on
which the current buildings are located, for $250. In May of 1949, a Gospel tent was secured from the Baptist Mission Committee of Spartanburg. The tent was
erected on the property and the congregation began meeting under the tent. The church raised funds and in 1949 church members built the church building. In the
fall of 1949, the church occupied its new building. The church met on the sub-flooring until money could be raised to complete the building. The church, by the
power of the Holy Spirit, continued to grow and in 1973, a ground-breaking service was held for the erection of a Fellowship and Educational building directly behind
the Sanctuary building. In 1986, the two buildings were brick veneered and in 1987, work began to connect the two buildings creating more educational space and a
new Pastor’s study.
In 1991, a metal Fellowship building was erected. The building was occupied with the inside unfinished until 1999. Also in 1999, a parcel of land directly across the
street from the sanctuary building was purchased.
With the help and work of many precious Christians, many souls have been saved and added to the Kingdom of God through the ministry of Stone Station Baptist
Church. Today, Stone Station Baptist Church is a healthy and growing ministry with ministries and opportunities for everyone. Since 1949, sixteen Pastors have led
the ministry and vision of the church. On Sunday, February 18, 2007, the church voted to enter a building program to provide a larger sanctuary and added
educational space. We are currently in the planning and fund-raising stage of this building campaign.
